From 3-5PM,
every afternoon, we had a recreational period. During this
period, students could go to the lake campus or to Baker Sports
Complex.
At the lake campus, there were several things
to do. One group always went out to water ski. It usually
contained 8-10 people. Of the others who did not go water skiing,
they could choose between canoeing, using paddleboats, sailing,
playing volleyball, soccer, frisbee, football, swimming, or
relaxing somewhere else.
At Baker Sports Complex, there were a number
of things to do. The first two weeks, there were two different
tournaments. For the first week, the tournament was basketball.
And for the second, it was volleyball. If students were not in
competition, they could work out in the weight rooms, run
outside, play basketball or volleyball in the gym, use the
raquetball courts, or swim in the indoor pool.
One of our most feared times of the day was referred to by our counselors as "Mandatory Fun." From the time of 9PM till 11PM, everybody in the program was required to attend the nightly activity time. It ranged from a game of testing which roomates knew the most about each other, Jeopardy, talent shows, poetry, and several other topics.
