The Economic Behavior of Physicians and Nurses
by Dr. Murray Simpson
"The Economic Behavior of Physicians and Nurses" was designed to introduce students to the way economists analyze people's behavior, applying this methodology to physicians and nurses. The central goal of the course was to examine the economic motives that, along with ethical motives, drive the behavior of health care professionals. It focused on concepts such as price discrimination, physician-induced demand, fee-for-service versus capitated payment insurance plans, and comparable worth. The class consisted of five problem sets, two tests, a group presentation, and a final exam.
